Services

jack of all. master of some.

I do a lot of different things creatively, and initially when I started to freelance I thought I would just be doing design work - but it turns out I can offer a lot more and my skills combine well to create truly unique and effective solutions for my clients.

Here are the
services I offer

Process

OVERVIEW MEETING
an initial meeting to go over your project and make some core decisions.

SITE STRUCTURE
making sure we're on the same page when it comes to 'pages'. This sometimes means developing a sitemap where we can visualize where content will go and how it will be structured through navigation. My go to for this is octopus.do, its a great free resource for site map planning.

HANDOFF
Hopefully by this point we will have created a truly unique and professional-looking website that meets your specific needs and design preferences.

Site Builders
PLATFORMS

Most people do not have the budget for a 'custom made built from scratch' website - the alternative is to use a site builder that offers pre-made templates or themes. There are many many site builders and they all have pros, cons, limits, and different price points. Some advance quickly keeping up with ever changing web development, some are easy to use, some are not! My recommendations for clients is usually between Squarespace and Shopify.

Squarespace
PLATFORM

Squarespace is often very visually appealing with a strong emphasis on professional looking sites with customizable elements and it's user-friendly drag-and-drop Fluid Engine interface is quite intuitive.

cons are limited code customization, there is no option to access and alter the base code, with limited ways to include new code in a site.

Theme Selection
Essentially all their 'themes' have the same building blocks, they just come with well thought out pre-existing formatting options. Choosing one that is closest to your branding is the best option, but ultimately they all offer the same functions.

Shopify
PLATFORM

Shopify has a robust choice of unique and beautiful themes all focused on mobile-responsive design, this gives you more options to stand out with more variation in appearance. It's a top contender in e-commerce, with more functionality and flexibility to customize code. Although it also has a drag-and-drop interface it can be a bit of a learning curve to get around the admin dashboard at first.

Hot tip: it's great outside of e-commerce too and on their pause and build plan it's one of the more affordable options.

cons are some functions require apps which can become costly and premium themes have a one time cost (which are worth it in my opinion). More complex backend than Squarespace.

Theme Selection
Choosing the right theme to showcase your information is acutely important on Shopify as each theme is coded differently and offer specific functionalities. I spend a lot of time browsing the theme store and testing a core selection of them before suggesting options for a project.

Custom Styles
ANY WEBSITE

Custom CSS can be used to highly customize the appearance of a website.

  • Overriding default styles:
Commonly used when working from existing code. Overriding element styles globally or within a specific section can be used to improve or change it's look.
  • Responsive design:
quite often adjusting CSS media queries is needed to improve responsive designs that adapt to different screen sizes and devices.

Complex Logic
SHOPIFY

Shopify is primarily coded using liquid which is a language that allows logic statements to dynamically display content within HTML. Although, it's not a complex language, I am skilled at writing and troubleshooting complex logic.

Domain, Host, Website
WHAT EVEN ARE THESE

A website is like a home!

Your domain is where people can find you (the www.somethingpart) it's like a home address. You can have more than one domain, but your website can only be linked to one, and you can point or forward the others to it (more like a PO Box).

The host is where the files are physically stored, like the land a home is built on. Some site builders are all-in-one, but some like WordPress let you chose a third-party where you can host your files - this usually means you can get a cheaper annual price, but once you start to add in security, backups, and other options it can add cost. Squarespace and Shopify are all-in-one platforms, meaning they store your files for you.

The website is like the home itself, it's what people see when they show up! It will reflect your style, have specific functions, and be built using code(s) just like you would use different materials to build parts of a home.

Digital

Design Online Ads

  • This typically requires a logo, some imagery, a call to action, and to know what size ads you would like to run!

Raster Illustrations:

Raster artwork is pixel based, and although it is digital it often mimics the look and feel of traditional mediums like pencil and paint. Raster artwork excels in capturing subtle details, textures, and variations in color, making it perfect for projects requiring vibrant, creative visuals. You can achieve a beautiful and bespoke feel, even for simple visuals.

This type of artwork does not scale without loss so starting with the correct resolution is important to avoid quality loss when resizing. it is also much harder to make alterations or design changes so revisions to this type of artwork are more time consuming and difficult.

Vector Illustrations:

Vector artwork is created using paths, points, and curves rather than pixels. It is entirely math based which allows designs to be infinitely scalable without losing quality. This makes it a good choice for anything that needs to be resized frequently. Unlike raster images, vector files remain sharp and clear. They’re also highly editable, enabling easy color adjustments, resizing, and layer manipulation. You can add grain and texture over top of vector graphics to give them a different feeling, but the underlying graphic can still be easily altered and repurposed.

For anyone needing versatile, professional-grade artwork, vector drawings offer flexibility and precision unmatched by other formats.
